CHESTER, NJ – Florence Lambros the creator and owner of the Art of Dance Studio in Chester passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1 at the age of 88.
She was born on Oct. 24, 1931 in Newark.
Florence previously lived in Randolph and has been a resident of Chester for the past 37 years. Florence was a professional dancer and was best known as the creator and owner of the Art of Dance, a dance studio that has been in business for over 50 years. Originally located in Randolph, the Art of Dance has been a fixture in the Chester business community for decades.
Florence was very involved with the community. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Power Squadron, and the Rotary club. She had a deep love for dance and the theater. Florence taught dance to thousands of adults and children, many of whom went on to become professional performers. She wanted every little girl and boy to have the opportunity to dance. For many years Florence ran a dance competition named Stardom Express. When she was a young adult, she tap danced with the big bands of the 50’s in night clubs in New York City and Milwaukee.
She had a passion for sailing and as a captain she and a crew sailed charter boats throughout the Atlantic and Caribbean Islands.
Florence is survived by her husband of 15 years, Angus Watson; son Scott Lambros and his wife Becky; daughters Debra Kolansky and husband Michael, Victoria Lambros, Valerie Harman and husband Charles, nine grandchildren, Jessica and Linsey Beth O’Neal; Danny, Jeremy and Amanda Kolansky; Julia Nitti, and Amanda, James and Adam Lambros; her 5 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Rechelle, Boaz, Lily and Sophia; as well as her beloved dog, Morag.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Daniel Lambros.
Florence’s Life Celebration was held at the William J. Leber Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held privately for the family.
